Introduction
The Chuandixia village, located at northeast remote canyon of Mentougou District, is 6
kilometers apart from the station of Zhaitang town government southeast while 3 kilometers away
from Bayu village northwest. Linking with the 109 federal highway, it is surrounded by mountains
with the access to the Zhaitang town. As the famous saying goes: “at its back is a valley which
looks like a dragon drinking in the river, while at its front is a peak which like a golden toad
raising head to appreciate the moon”, there are Bijia Mountain, Bi Mountain, Wohu Mountain,
Shenguixiaoyue Mountain and Bat Mountain. The village, located at underneath of Cuan defile (an
ancient fortress called Cuanli’ankou) of the Tianjinguan ancient road, is a natural mountain pass.
It is a 100-meter long natural defense known as Yixiantian because the canyon is deep and the
cliffs along two sides are sheer. The ancient buildings of Chuandixia village are reasonablely
built in whole while delicate designs can be seen in details. At present, there are 76 sets of 689
courtyard houses well preserved that can completely and vividly display the residents’ life of Qing
Dynasty (1664-1991). There are many temples built in 1665(4th year of the reign of Emperor Kangxi)
such as Niangniang temple, Tao temple and so on. On Nov. 27th, 2003, the village was entitled as “
Chinese cultural and historical village” by the Ministry of Construction and the National Cultural
Relic Bureau.
Service facilities
Dining and lodging: The primarily characteristic dishes are the food of farmhouse cooking,
for example: roasted lamb leg. It may once receive more than 1000 tourists to go to eat. And there
are 18 municipal folk tourism households in the village at present, more than 500 beds.
Local products: Chuandixia has many local specialties for tourists to choose, such as wild
camellia japonica, honey, miscellaneous grains and many kinds of local cultural souvenirs.
Entertainment: The tourist may appreciate characteristic humanities here, such as the stele
inscription, the carved stone, the temple of Guanyu and the courtyard of the wealthy, as well as
the Hushan( the Tiger Mountain), Guishan(the Turtle Mountain), which manifest Chuandixia’s glorious
historical culture and the unique natural landscape .
